The fee for a non-member with a reservation is $40. The fee for members and non-members without a reservation (walk-in) is $45.  The registration deadline to receive the reduced rates is by the Thursday prior to the Thursday meeting. However, if you are unable to register by the deadline, we still encourage our members to come at the walk-in rate ($45).  On-line registrations will not be accepted after the Thursday prior to the Thursday meeting.  After that date, please call Jo Warley at 831-645-1440 or email her at reservations@cchra.org to register at the walk-in rate.  Payment can be made at the door by cash or check.

Cancellation Policy:

We definitely understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise that would prevent someone from being able to attend. Unfortunately, CCHRA has been burdened in the past with the expense related to reservations made that are not kept as we are billed by the meeting venue and catering services for the number of reservations received. Understandably, the Board of Directors and general membership prefers to manage CCHRA's funds in a more fiscally responsible way. If you reserve, and are unable to attend, please be sure to cancel in advance by NO LATER THAN THE THURSDAY PRIOR TO THE THURSDAY MEETING to avoid being billed although you were absent. To cancel, please send an email to reservations@cchra.org with a subject header of "cancellation and your name" or call Jo Warley at 831-645-1440.  If we do not receive your cancellation, we will need to bill you. Thank you for your understanding!

We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming program!

Come hear our educational speakers at the beautiful Corral De Tierra Country Club.  And don’t forget to pre-register…the cost which includes lunch and the program, is only $25 for CCHRA members ($40 for non-members) when you pre-register by the Thursday before the program.

Social Networking in the Workplace

September 9, 2010

Crystal Riggins, associate with the law firm of Hoge Fenton Jones and Appel, will be speaking about Social Networking and what it means for employers in the workplace.

Social media is a fast-growing marketing tool for companies of all sizes.  It is not without legal concerns and risks, however.  In October 2009 the Federal Trade Commission, which enforces laws related to advertising in all types of media, broadened its Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising to include social media.  This change has big impact to employers, including the implementation of written policies regarding social networking and disclosure; and notification to all employees, independent contractors, and all other persons with material connections to your company, goods, or services of the FTC’s disclosure requirements.

Crystal Riggins is a member of the Litigation Practice Group. She focuses on all aspects of civil litigation, including case evaluation, pre-trial dispute resolution, discovery, trial, and post-trial matters.  Crystal graduated from Santa Clara University School of Law in 2009. While in law school she received two CALI Excellence for the Future Awards in Comparative Government Spending Policies and Family Wealth Management. She was the best oral advocate in Appellate Advocacy, and a competitor in the Galloway Moot Court Competition. In the Santa Clara Internal Moot Court Competition, Crystal was a finalist and a recipient of the Gerald Marer Oral Advocacy Award and the Harold R. McKinnion Prize for Best Brief. She was the research assistant for Professor Kandis Scott.

Prior to Crystal’s admission to the California Bar, she was a summer associate at Hoge Fenton Jones & Appel.  She worked in several of the firm’s practice areas including litigation, business, real estate, and land use.  She also summered at McNamara, Dodge, Ney, Beatty, Slattery, Pfalzer, Borges & Brothers LLP in Walnut Creek.  There she worked with the litigation, construction, and medical malpractice groups and assisted with the drafting of a brief to the California, Third Appellate District Court of Appeal.

Crystal received her undergraduate degree in Political Science, cum laude, from St. Mary’s College of California in 2005. There she was the co-chair of the Programming Board and a research assistant at the Women’s Economic Agenda Project in Oakland, California.  Crystal is a volunteer at Family Supportive Housing in San Jose. She also is an active member of the Ladies Guild at St. Christopher’s Church in San Jose.

California HR Trends

and Business Impact

Faced with the effects of a tough economy, globalization and continued health care cost increases, HR faces difficult challenges ahead. Add the complexities of doing business in California and the challenges multiply. This presentation will focus on critical global, national, state, and local trends impacting all us here in California in the years ahead. What are the projections ahead for the workforce and how could these impact our organizations? What can HR do to prepare our organizations to meet these challenges?
